Donated Items Policy

Our policy on donated items

All items must reach a safety minimum in order to be deemed acceptable to be given away to local charities via A Good Thing. In addition, you must be the legal owner of an item in order to donate it.

Items that can never be listed:

  • Petrol-or diesel-fuelled DIY and garden tools

  • Flammable items such as fireworks, barbeque lighting tools, fireworks or fuel

  • Weapons (including realistic toy weapons)

  • Medication

  • Any form of smoking/vaping/drug paraphernalia, apparatus or accessory

  • Poisons

  • Pornographic or adult material and accessories

  • Any items made from ivory or items made from endangered species

  • Counterfeit (fake or imitation) products

  • Live animals

  • Any controlled substance

  • Fire extinguishers that have passed the applicable use by date

An item may not be listed if it:

  • has chipped, cracked or broken glass

  • has obvious stains, rips or marks

  • is mouldy

If an item has missing parts or is not working correctly, this must be made clear in the description.

If an upholstered item does not have a fire safety label attached, this must be made clear in the description.

A Good Thing recommends that Donors take the following steps with respect to all Donated Materials:

  • Check: Ensure the Donated Materials comply with product safety laws and regulations and are in a safe condition

  • Clear: Erase data from devices and remove any company branding

  • Insurance: Confirm whether your business insurance covers liability for gifts/donations

  • Record: Keep a basic record of Donated Material and each Recipient

Each listing may be reviewed by A Good Thing and we reserve the right to refuse or take down any listing.

This list is intended as a guide only and is not necessarily comprehensive. It is the Donor’s responsibility to ensure that the goods are fit for purpose and compliant with all applicable law and regulations. A Good Thing does not accept any responsibility and excludes all liability to the fullest extent permitted by law for any issues or claims that may arise due to the condition or nature of the goods.

If you are unsure about the condition of your item or whether it can be donated via the A Good Thing platform, please contact hello@agoodthing.org.uk.
